FOR SOME REAL CAUSE.........

FOR SOME REAL CAUSE.........

Finally, the strike has been called off. And all my friends from

non-medical community were asking “why did you call off the

strike? Has all your demands been met”? And there were some of

my friends enquiring , “ why cant you medicos work in rural areas,

isn’t serving people your duty?”

And what do you think my emotions would have

been………Anger? Pity? Irritation? Exasperation?

……….,

what I was feeling was Sadness………., why sadness -because the

public isn’t aware of the real reason as to why we striked in the

first place.

Iam sure the public is much aware of the fact that as in no other

profession, medical field requires a time span of 5 ½ years to

complete the under graduation itself and if the pg and further

higher studies were to be considered, it would take 13 ½ years .

And on top of this if they were to increase it by 1 more year, they

are in fact not only delaying the students from passing out but are

also deterring the younger generation from entering this field.

Already this year many students have left their medical seats and

opted for engineering which is not only attractive in its pay packet

but is also attractive in terms of the time required which is only 4

yrs. Do you know that till now not one student has complained of

the meager salary that is given to them which is only Rs.4200/-.

Even a government sweeper is paid around 5000 but what have the

medicos got ?

They are just happy to cure the patients coming to

them and the satisfaction that they are really doing something.

What is more pitying is that the medical students are asked to

work in rural areas as a student without giving the students their

degree , it is like asking all the students learning car to drive the

government buses just because they cant employ qualified drivers

to drive them or asking the engineering students to build buildings

because they cant employ qualified engineers for work. Wouldn’t

this endanger the people’s lives? Wouldn’t it be better if they

posted doctors in villages which would be really beneficial to

people.

And what is more , the medicos are all ready to work if

they are posted as doctors. Which is more better , posting doctors

or posting students?

Surely DOCTORS, Right!

The public’s warm gesture in showing their solidarity with us has

been overwhelming , to see that atleast they have understood our

plight!

But still after all this medical students are continuing their

education to serve the people and the needy, keeping the health of

the people in their mind. Now iam sure that everyone would have

understood what is the purpose of medicos and their real cause.

Iam sure the public and the society stands with the medical

students who have dared to enter the medical field inspite of so

many demands asked of them and face so many challenges for no

fault of theirs. The students are really thankful to those and

everyone for understanding their plight and for supporting them.
